My name is Kaytie Boomer and I am currently a Multimedia Specialist for The Bay City Times/The Saginaw News, MLive.com. I work on day-to-day events such as breaking news, high school sports and many feature stories that pop up throughout the week.
Over the summer of 2016, I was chosen to be the Media Intern at Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve in Bartlett Cove, Alaska. I mainly worked on my video skills as well as nature/feature photography. This internship helped me grow in my work as well as a person. I learned to work under immense pressure, blend easily with other cultures/people, and to say 'yes' to any opportunity that could lead to a story.
I graduated with my bachelor's degree in Photojournalism through Central Michigan University in December of 2016 and I use techniques I learned there in my everyday shooting.
Furthermore, being at CMU has opened my eyes to be more aware of how much is actually around me. To me, photojournalism is not all about pretty photographs, but about telling the truth about people. There are endless stories that need to be told everywhere, and the desire I have burning inside me to tell them will never fade away.
As many challenges arise throughout my journey, I will take each struggle as a lesson and will find a way to conquer it. I am completely willing to work as hard as I need to. I absolutely love the work that I do and cannot wait to continue growing in this field.
